Before we listen — Monday’s writing in miniature. The two fixes, alive in your own words.
What held up strength
“I definitely agree that the working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend.” ✓ Direct thesis, clean sentence. One question: does your conclusion still say this?
What we fix 2 priorities
“there can be some deadlines would not be closed” → some deadlines would not be met (grammar + collocation)
“others can have a depression” → others may suffer from depression
Fix 1 (one position, first sentence to last) returns in Lesson 4, when we rebuild the essay. Fix 2 (precise collocations) runs through everything — including today’s listening: exact words, exact spellings.
02 · Method
How marks are won and lost.
Four rules. They decide more than your English does.
1 · Predict before you listen
Use the pause to read ahead. For each gap, decide: a number? a name (spelling!)? a noun? a verb? Listening with a prediction is twice as fast as listening cold.
2 · Respect the word limit
ONE WORD AND/OR A NUMBER ≠ ONE WORD ONLY. Today Part 1 allows both; the second half allows one word only. An extra word = a lost mark, even if you heard correctly.
3 · Distractors are deliberate
Speakers correct themselves, change plans, mention all three options. Never write the first thing you hear — wait for the confirmation.
4 · Spelling is scored
Names are spelled aloud — write every letter. Plurals matter (visitors, not visitor). Use the 10-minute transfer to check: double letters, endings, a/an.
03 · Part 1 · Questions 1–10
Guitar Group — form + table.
Q1–6: one word and/or a number · Q7–10: one word only. Listen once, no pausing.
Test 2 · Part 1
Read Q1–6 first (30 seconds), then play. Same for Q7–10.

07Tuning: using an app or by _____
08Strumming: keeping time while the teacher is _____
Q11–16: one letter · Q17–20: two letters each (both needed). Options are paraphrased — match meanings, not words.
Test 2 · Part 2
Underline keywords in each question stem first, then play without pausing.

05 · Review
Every miss has a cause.
We classify each miss — then it stops happening.
The four causes
Didn’t predict — started listening cold. Fix: 30 seconds on the questions first.
Distractor caught me — wrote the first mention. Fix: wait for the confirmation.
Spelling / limit — heard it, lost the mark. Fix: transfer-time check (plurals, doubles, word count).
Paraphrase missed — waited for the exact word. Fix: match meanings, especially in Part 2.
Spelling watchlist
Names are always spelled aloud — copy letter by letter (Mathieson, not Matheson). Numbers: write digits when allowed (11 is safer than eleven). Times need their half (11 am, not 11).
Your trap log starts today: every miss gets a cause + a one-line rule. Monday we read it back.
06 · Homework
